Update from Dr. Olivia Feliciano De Leon, President
August 9, 2004
Warm greetings!
I am honored to share with you and the rest of our generous kababayan current significant highlights for both MHS and URS.
This August, the Model Classroom for an Interactive Science and Technology Based Learning Environment as proposed by the Morong High School Faculty will be launched as a catalyst of modern and quality instruction to our students. Envisioned to achieve a deeper sense of enthusiasm among students and teachers alike, rooms are characterized by well-designed laboratories complete with modern equipment and supplies.
URS Board of Regents approved the establishment of Southern Tagalog Information Sharing Network (STISNET) which aims to instituting an exclusive electronic network interconnecting all government agencies, local government units and non-government organizations in Southern Tagalog into one common hub to facilitate information sharing and efficient delivery of basic and electronic services. This translates to Internet Access installation to all URS Campuses, a solid step en route to attaining the University vision of becoming a premier technology-driven institution by year 2015.
Another meaningful motion of the BOR is the approval of the URS Development Foundation incorporated to serve varied functions, to name a few:
- to engage in educational projects, including the granting of scholarship to deserving students;
- to conduct training programs for the development of faculty and staff;
- to encourage the establishment of small-scale or alternative income generating activities;
- to accept and receive assistance, gifts, donations, bequests, legacies, devises or endowments from individuals, corporations, or other persons or entities, domestic or foreign;
- to raise money or funds from time to time to finance the projects of the Foundation.
On August 11, the Foundations Board and Officers will meet to discuss the proposed establishment of URS Development Foundation College of Medicine and Medical Center. The proposed project is a multi-specialist tertiary care medical center that will address the health care needs of the rapidly growing population of Rizal Province. The hospital and college of medicine, as a twin project, is expected to make quality sophisticated complex diagnostic and treatment modalities accessible to all constituents of the province. I am optimistic that through will, determination and combined efforts, the project will be realized.
May these news inspire and encourage all our dear kababayan to continue our pursuit for academic excellence through selfless sharing of talent and resources. What they are providing us are touching so many lives and shaping destinies on the road to a better life. All of you have been a continual fountain of inspiration to the University.
Thank you very much!
Best regards,
Olivia Feliciano De Leon, Ed. D.
