2002 Homecoming Speech

Normita Fenn’s Speech at the MHSAA Grand Alumni Homecoming, Sunday, April 7, 2002, URS Quadrangle, Morong Campus

Distinguished Guests, Fellow Alumni:

On behalf of the Morong High School Alumni Association’s Northern California Chapter, I would like to thank the Honorable Mona Valisno from the Office of the President of the Philippines, Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for taking the time to join us today.  Due to another engagement she had to leave earlier.

And to our host for putting together such a tremendous affair so that we can all recollect the many wonderful days of our high school. Many years have gone by since we exited the gates of our beloved Morong High School, but its banner continues to wave in our hearts.

I am filled with emotions of joy to be here in celebration of another momentous Grand Alumni Homecoming.   This moment is extra special as another century just unfolded and, more importantly, as we bear witness in the evolution of Morong High School into yet another phase of academic achievement, as the new University of Rizal System.

As president of the Morong High School Alumni Assn in Northern California, it is my privilege to introduce an alumna of our high school for dedicated service to our Association.  The Morong High School Alumni Association, Northern California Chapter, was formed in 1979, amidst some very exciting times, times when we were all establishing our young families and our careers in the United States.

I am proud to say that the Northern California Chapter has many, many dedicated members who are committed to the ideals of the Association.  But there is one individual who stands out and who played a major role in the formation of the very first Morong High School Alumni Association outside the Philippines.  In the late seventies, this individual assisted in gathering and contacting the alumni who were residing in the Northern California area, by virtually going door to door, writing letters and did whatever was necessary to realize their ultimate dream to organize.    I am talking about Mrs. Eva Robles San Felipe, Class ’57, an outstanding, dedicated alumna, who never wavered in her commitment, which made our Association as strong and as vibrant today.  She served in many official capacities, most recently as President of the Northern California Chapter from 1999-2000, where she was instrumental in leading the very first Grand Alumni Homecoming in San Francisco, California, in July, 1999.

Twenty-three years after its formation, I am very proud to preside over an Association who has the basic foundation of a strong, united group of alumni, who share a common bond of unity and friendship, thanks to alumni like Eva.

Distinguished guests, my fellow alumni, please join me in welcoming and recognizing the outstanding service of Mrs. Eva Robles San Felipe, to the Morong High School Alumni Association for almost quarter of a century.  I invite her to come up and receive the outstanding service award granted by our esteemed Association.  I also invite Honorable Mayor Jorge Bernardo and Dr. Olivia Feliciano De Leon to assist me in this recognition.
